The Happiness Project

Hello, new friends! This is Molly from Sunshine on a Cloud Day and I’m doing a little visit from the West Coast while Carly is away on vacation. Stop by my blog and get neat little lifestyle updates about clothes, books and a plethora of pretty things.

Let’s face it: We all get down in the dumps. But sometimes it’s harder to get out of the mellow rut. Gretchen Rubin has set out to answer the age old question of how to find happiness and then stay happy. Her book The Happiness Project follows her year testing out different approaches to finding lasting happiness. A year later, and this little gem is still a bestseller and changes lives daily via the Happiness Project Toolbox. 

Inspired by a ride on the bus, Rubin’s life transformed before her eyes. One writer, AJ Jacobs, said: “This book made me happy in the first five pages. And the more I read it, the happier I got. It’s filled with great insights that have changed every part of my life, from love to money, from work to play, from writing to Diet Coke.”

Rubin says her four truths to maintaining her happiness are:

• To be happier, you have to think about feeling good, feeling bad, and feeling right, in an atmosphere of growth.

• One of the best ways to make yourself happy is to make other people happy; One of the best ways to make other people happy is to be happy yourself.

• The days are long, but the years are short.

• You’re not happy unless you think you’re happy.

This book has moved to the top of list of must-have. I want to read more about this and see what conclusions her year of exploring led her to. I also think the The Happiness Project Toolbox is such a brilliant social media tool, which allows individuals to track their unique happiness projects and stay motivated. It’s such a sweet and powerful idea, that I think everyone should take a gander at the revolution Rubin’s working on. Plus, finding and keeping happiness in your life, is probably the best New Year’s Resolution out there!

a new home

...for my Nikon.
This lovely bag is my number one item on my Christmas list this year.
Since purchasing my prized possesion Nikon,
I have been on a serious search for a practical yet pretty camera bag.
I finally found it a few months ago. This gorgeous quilted *emera bag is the perfect home!
Now, if only Christmas had come early this year and I had it before my holiday trip.
Oh well. Hopefully it will be a beautiful resting place for my camera just a few short days after my return.

For the next week or so I will be basking in the sun ocean and pool side.

I've decided to use my cell phone strictly for it's camera purposes

(as if I need it in addition to the three other cameras that always join me on my adventures)

My wish list of books to read has been growing so fast I cant even begin to keep up.
I've been filling up my trusty moleskine notebook with endless pages of titles and authors I
want to one day cross off my list. I've also been filling up my nook for my upcoming
travels with all sorts of exciting titles. I love knowing that my nook library can grow infinitely.

But I really wish I had a house of my own to make into a library. I already color code
my books like the first pictur below but how exciting would it be to have
a whole room just for your beautiful books.

I would rather be...Travelin' Tuesday

Over the last year I have developed a deepy rooted need to travel.
Along with this has come a love for all things travel related,
maps, guide books, luggage, the works.
How amazing would it be to simply open a map, pick a place and just go?

bucket list for quite some time. Now i just have to get my own house to go with it.

over the past few days i've been helping out a dear friend
